Swiggy, the popular online food delivery platform, is in hot water after being accused of defrauding Blue Nile restaurant in Pune of a whopping Rs 56 lakh. The alleged incident took place over a period of several months, starting in March 2023 and ending in November 2023.

The complaint was filed by Vidyagauri Bhavkar, the Accounts Head of Blue Nile Restaurant, with the cyber police. The accused, identified as Sandeep Sharma, who serves as the manager of Swiggy, is facing charges under sections 419, 420, and 34 of the IPC.

Blue Nile Restaurant has been a long-standing player in the food industry, offering delivery services through various platforms, including Swiggy. The restaurant’s partnership with Swiggy dates back to 2015, and many customers have been ordering their favorite dishes through the platform.

However, trouble began brewing in March 2023 when Blue Nile started experiencing delays in receiving payments from Swiggy. Despite numerous attempts to address the issue with Sandeep Sharma, the outstanding dues remained unpaid. The complaint alleges that Swiggy withheld a substantial amount of Rs. 54,62,786, in addition to failing to pay TDS of Rs. 1,37,096, totaling Rs. 55,99,882.

The case has been registered with the Bund Garden police station, and investigations are currently underway. Police Sub-Inspector Parmeshwar Garkal, the investigating officer, confirmed that the cyber police are looking into the matter and working towards resolving the issue.
