Three members of a Kolhapur-based family were recently swindled out of a whopping Rs 29 lakh on the false promise of securing jobs in the Indian Army. Can you believe it?
The culprit behind this heartless scam has been identified as Sandip Gurav, who allegedly posed as a retired army officer with connections at the highest levels. He lured the victims with the prospect of jobs at the Military Hospital in Khadki, painting a rosy picture of a bright future in the armed forces.
One of the victims, Satappa Waghre, who works as a conductor in the MSRTC, was introduced to Gurav by a friend back in 2020. Little did he know that this connection would lead to a nightmare of deceit and betrayal. Gurav convinced Waghre and his family members that he could help them secure coveted positions in the Army, but it all turned out to be a cruel hoax.
When the Waghre family met Gurav at the Military Hospital, he demanded a staggering Rs 12 lakh from each of them for the promised jobs. In total, they were asked to cough up Rs 36 lakh, a sum that they handed over in good faith. To add insult to injury, Gurav even provided them with fake documents to further deceive them.
Thankfully, the victims have now sought justice by filing a complaint with the Khadki Police Station. The authorities have launched an investigation into this despicable scam, with Gurav and his accomplice, Ashwini Patil, facing the heat. It remains to be seen whether there are more victims who fell prey to Gurav’s fraudulent scheme.
