Hey there, Pune folks! Looks like there’s a new twist in the ongoing controversy surrounding the defence estate bungalows in our city. Citizen activists are now calling for a special task force to investigate the fraudulent sale of these bungalows, claiming that there has been no progress in the case despite promises from the director-general of defence estates (DGDE).

According to activists, the DGDE had announced the resumption of 16 Old Grant Bungalows (OGBs) back in February, but there has been no movement on the issue since then. They allege that the investigation ordered by Southern Command Defence estates director Saurav Ray, who uncovered the multi-crore scam, has been put on hold.

Ray had found that illegal purchasers had obtained building sanctions by hiding crucial information, leading him to direct the CEO of the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) to halt all construction work in the bungalows in the cantonment area. However, no updates have been provided on the case following his transfer.

Civic rights activist Rajabhau Chavan has criticized the resumption process post Ray’s transfer, calling it a farce. He, along with social worker Raj Singh, is demanding a thorough probe into the illegalities surrounding OGBs and their fraudulent sale. The IGR office had previously ordered all sub-registrar offices in the state to investigate unauthorized sales of defence bungalows on January 1, 2024.

The demand for a special task force comes in the wake of allegations of a massive scam involving the sale of defence bungalows, with each bungalow reportedly costing hundreds of crores of rupees. Activists are urging authorities to take swift action and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

We’ll keep you updated on this developing story, so stay tuned for more information.
