1. Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) has pledged its support to the Gene Health Lab at Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) in Pune as part of its CSR initiatives. This collaboration aims to improve healthcare access for economically disadvantaged communities by enhancing diagnostic capabilities.
  2. MUHS Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General Dr Madhuri Kanitkar (retd), emphasized the importance of the lab in providing affordable diagnostic tests for various critical health conditions. These tests, which include screenings for Down’s syndrome, thalassemia, and breast cancer, play a vital role in early detection and treatment planning.
  3. MNGL’s contribution will focus on acquiring advanced equipment to ensure the lab remains technologically equipped. This support will enable the lab to expand its operations and conduct more genomic tests for those in need.
  4. The Mahatma Phule Janarogya Yojana (MJPJAY) will cover treatment costs for patients undergoing diagnostic tests at the Gene Health Lab. Eminent scientists and doctors from institutions like Tata Cancer Hospital and Sassoon Hospital will provide counseling and support to patients during this process.
  5. MUHS plans to extend the availability of these tests to government hospitals throughout Maharashtra to increase healthcare accessibility. Dr Rajendra Bangal, Registrar of MUHS, is optimistic about this expansion aligning with the institution’s goal of providing high-quality healthcare services statewide.
  6. Dr Anuradha Chougule, a researcher and consultant from Tata Memorial Hospital, will oversee oncology tests at the Gene Health Lab to ensure international standards of accuracy and reliability are maintained. Her expertise will play a crucial role in the success of these tests.
