In the wake of a tragic accident involving a Porsche that claimed the lives of two IT engineers in Kalyani Nagar, the Pune Excise Department has cracked down on alcohol consumption in the city. Here’s what you need to know about the new enforcement drive:

1. Targeted Areas: The enforcement drive is targeting establishments in Pune, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and rural regions surrounding the city.

2. Establishments Sealed: So far, 32 establishments have been sealed for failing to comply with the new regulations.

3. Drinking License Requirement: Deputy Superintendent Sujit Patil emphasized the importance of obtaining a drinking license for individuals consuming alcohol in clubs, restaurants, and bars. Licenses can be obtained from the excise department, online, or directly at the establishment, and only individuals over the age of 25 are allowed to consume hard liquor.

4. Response from Establishments: Restaurant and bar owners have taken proactive measures to ensure compliance with the new regulations. They have placed informational boards outside their premises to inform patrons of the drinking age and license requirements. Additionally, drinkers will be given identification bands to easily identify licensed individuals within the premises.

5. Ongoing Efforts: The Pune Excise Department is dedicated to enforcing these regulations to promote responsible and legal alcohol consumption. The initiative aims to prevent future tragedies and create a safer environment for all residents.
