Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is making a big move in India by starting to assemble the Range Rover model locally. This decision is in line with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and aims to bring down prices significantly.

Currently, JLR’s Pune plant assembles the Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar F-PACE, and Discovery Sport models. Now, the flagship Range Rover model will also be assembled in India, along with the Range Rover Sport.

The locally assembled Range Rovers will be available for delivery by the end of this month, with the Range Rover Sport set to arrive in the market by August. This move is expected to reduce prices by 18 to 22 per cent, with reports suggesting a potential price drop of up to Rs 56 lakh.

N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, expressed confidence in the Indian market and called the local assembly of flagship models an “inflection point” for the company. Geraldine Ingham, Managing Director of Range Rover, highlighted the high demand for Range Rover models and emphasized the importance of India in their success story.

In the previous financial year, JLR recorded revenue of Rs 4,000 crore in India, with total sales reaching 4,500 units. This move to assemble flagship models locally is expected to further boost the company’s presence in the Indian market.
