Pune, 18th July 2024: Big changes are coming to Pune’s main roads in an effort to ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time for citizens. A new scheme is set to be implemented on 32 key traffic channels in the city, with upgrades including square enhancements, parking management, and traffic control devices.

The project, in collaboration with Google, will see the development of a mobile app by the Pune Traffic Branch and Pune Municipal Corporation. This app aims to improve travel time and increase road capacity in the city.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Additional Police Commissioner Manoj Patil are leading the charge to classify roads according to their usage and implement special measures to alleviate traffic issues. The selected main roads will undergo various enhancements such as updated signal systems, parking management, and road surfacing.

By prioritizing these main roads and increasing their width, the project hopes to boost traffic speed and capacity, ultimately reducing pressure on internal residential and commercial streets. The initiative also includes completing missing road links, enforcing no-hawker zones, and addressing pending court cases related to roads.

In a unique partnership with Google, the Pune Traffic Police will gather information on the city’s parking system, traffic congestion, and public transport stops. Additionally, efforts will be made to reduce the number of accidents in the city by analyzing accident causes and coordinating with the Save Life Foundation to improve response times for the injured.

Overall, these measures aim to enhance traffic flow, reduce accidents, and improve the overall commuting experience for Pune’s residents. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development!
