The mismanagement at Sassoon General Hospital in Yerwada has come under scrutiny once again as activists have alleged that doctors are abandoning destitute patients at night instead of providing them with proper treatment. This alarming situation was brought to light by Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi activist Ritesh Gaikwad and social activist Dadasaheb Gaikwad, who recently filed a case against a doctor and his colleagues at the Yerawada Police Station.

Dadasaheb Gaikwad, who helps destitute patients by admitting them to Sassoon Hospital, shared a disturbing incident from one and a half years ago when a patient he had brought in disappeared overnight. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the doctor had taken the patient away and not returned him, raising concerns about the treatment of orphaned patients at the hospital.

To uncover the truth, Dadasaheb and Ritesh decided to monitor the hospital, leading to a shocking discovery. In the early hours of Monday, a doctor at Sassoon Hospital asked Ritesh to drop off a patient far away from the hospital, indicating a pattern of neglect towards vulnerable patients. The doctor even mentioned paying a rickshaw driver to handle such cases, highlighting a disturbing practice within the hospital.

Following this incident, the patient was left under a tree in Vishrantwadi by the doctor and his colleague, prompting Ritesh to inform the police and ensure the patient was readmitted for proper treatment. An FIR was registered under section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) at the Yerawada Police Station, and the case has been transferred to the Bundgarden police station for further investigation.

Both Dadasaheb and Ritesh emphasized the need for a thorough inquiry into the matter to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. They called for accountability and justice for the destitute patients who have been neglected by the very healthcare system meant to care for them. Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke assured that the case would be investigated thoroughly to ensure that such malpractices are rooted out and the responsible parties are held accountable.
