Good news for Pune residents as the storage capacity of the Khadakwasla chain of four dams has increased to over 50%. This comes after heavy rainfall in the catchment areas, which has significantly raised the storage levels. The current storage can last for the next eight months, putting an end to any water crisis fears.

The total storage in the four dams is now 14.63 TMC, which is 50.18% of the capacity. With steady rainfall continuing, this number may increase further in the coming days. Last year on July 22, the storage was 14.12 TMC, so there has been a positive increase of 0.51 TMC.

The individual storage levels in the four Khadakwasla dams are as follows: Temghar 1.42 TMC, Varasgaon 5.61 TMC, Panshet 6.13 TMC, and Khadakwasla 1.48 TMC. Comparing these numbers to last year’s figures shows an improvement in storage levels.

In addition to the Khadakwasla dams, the 26 dams in the district (excluding Tata Group dams) have a total storage of 57.87 TMC. This is slightly lower than last year’s storage on the same date. The total storage in all dams in the district is 198.34 TMC, providing a good overall water supply.

The six Tata Group dams have a total storage capacity of 42.76 TMC, with current levels at 46.70%. These dams include Mulshi, Thokarwadi, Shirota, Walwan, Lonavala, and Kundli. Overall, the water situation in Pune is looking positive with improved storage levels across various dams.
