Pune residents were in for a rough ride on Saturday as multiple two-wheelers skidded on Sinhagad Road due to spilled cement concrete mixture from RMC mixture tankers. One unfortunate bike rider was injured in the incident, highlighting the dangers posed by this recurring issue.

Despite previous penalties imposed on RMC mixture plant owners and efforts by civic workers to clean up the mess, the problem persists. The civic body’s announcement of deploying sanitary workers at the spot failed to materialize, leading to more spills and accidents on the road.

Local residents have pointed fingers at a possible collusion between civic officials and plant owners, calling for the immediate removal of these plants to ensure the safety of commuters. Assistant Municipal Commissioner Sandip Khalate assured that action would be taken against the responsible plants, with fines imposed on those violating RTO rules.

In response, API Rajkumar Barde from Sinhagad Traffic Division vowed to crack down on overloaded RMC mixture tankers and dumpers to prevent further incidents. Ward Head Mahesh Pokale of the Khadakwasla Assembly Segment urged the civic body to promptly clean up the spilled concrete mixture, warning plant owners of strict consequences if they fail to address the issue.

The situation on Sinhagad Road remains precarious, and it is crucial for authorities to address the root cause of these accidents before more lives are put at risk.
