The aftermath of a tragic accident in Pune has led to the suspension of licenses for nearly 70 pubs in the city. This has dealt a heavy blow to the hospitality industry, with many restaurants struggling to stay afloat.

The incident, which involved a drunk teenager driving a Porsche that resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals, has prompted authorities to take strict measures. While some restaurants have managed to get their liquor licenses back, a significant number remain closed, putting a strain on owners and staff who are facing financial difficulties.

In an effort to address the situation, 15-20 restaurants are filing writ petitions in the Bombay High Court on Wednesday to urge the Collector to issue orders on the revoked licenses. The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) Pune Chapter and the United Hospitality Association are supporting these petitions.

Advocate Ajinkya Udane, Co-Chapter Head of NRAI Pune Chapter, expressed the challenges faced by the restaurant industry and the urgent need for a resolution to prevent further financial losses and ensure the livelihood of employees.

With the hospitality sector already struggling from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the suspension of liquor licenses has added more challenges. Industry representatives are hopeful that the court will expedite a resolution to this issue.
