Hey Pune peeps, here’s some exciting news for all you Metro lovers out there! The Union Budget for 2024-25 has allocated a whopping Rs 814.4 crore for Pune’s Metro project. That’s right, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) is gearing up to make some serious progress on the extension between PCMC and Nigdi, as well as the proposed underground extension from Swargate to Katraj.

The civil work on the PCMC-Nigdi extension, which covers a 4.5 km stretch with three stations, is already in full swing. Maha Metro officials are working hard to get most of this project completed within the next two and a half years.

Although detailed allocations are still pending, Maha Metro is expecting the funds to be released in phases as announced in the budget. They had initially requested Rs 1,500 crore for various projects, including the extension work and stretches like Ramwadi-Vanaz and PCMC-Swargate. With the Ramwadi-Vanaz route almost finished, the focus is now on the extensions, and luckily, there are enough funds available for the job.

Meanwhile, preliminary work has begun on the Swargate-Katraj underground route, but final approval is still pending. Metro users are eagerly waiting for these extensions to be prioritized for their convenience.

Maha Metro, along with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has been busy studying potential routes for future projects. Two proposals, Vanaz-Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi-Wagholi, are in the final stages and have been submitted to the state government for approval, which has then been forwarded to the Centre for the green light.

Exciting times ahead for Pune’s Metro project, so stay tuned for more updates on the progress!
