Hey Pune folks, have you heard about the recent cable theft on the Metro tracks between Bund Garden and Kalyaninagar stations? Yep, you read that right – maintenance cables worth Rs 1 lakh have been stolen over the past three weeks. That’s no small change!

The stolen cables, which contain copper, span a whopping 450 meters. The Metro authorities only found out about the theft last Friday and wasted no time in filing a complaint with the Yerawada police on Monday. Talk about quick action!

According to Hemant Sonawane, the Executive Director of Pune Metro, these maintenance cables are crucial for earthing purposes. Luckily, the theft hasn’t messed with Metro operations between Bund Garden and Wadgaonsheri because of a backup system in place. Phew!

Inspector Chhagan Kapse from the Yerawada police mentioned that stealing these cables is no walk in the park. They were installed on elevated girders, making the theft quite the challenge. The exact method used by the thieves is still a mystery, but Metro officials are on it.

In fact, the police suspect that the culprits might be taking advantage of the trees near the overhead Metro lines to swipe all sorts of items, not just cables. So, keep an eye out for any shady characters lurking around trees with a bag full of stolen goods!

For now, investigations are ongoing, and the police are combing through CCTV footage to crack the case. So, stay tuned for updates on this cable caper in Pune!
