Hey there, folks! Exciting news coming out of Khadki today as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is finally moving forward with the widening of the old Pune-Mumbai road in the area. After facing numerous delays, the project is gaining momentum with the recent acquisition of the Jaihind cinema site.

Just yesterday, the PMC secured a judgment against Jaihind Cinema and Cafe Punjab restaurant, which were located opposite the Khadki railway station. The quick demolition of the Jaihind Cinema building has cleared the way for the road widening project to proceed without any further obstacles.

The widening initiative, set to be completed within the next three months, had been facing challenges due to land acquisition issues. However, with the acquisition of the Jaihind cinema site, progress is now expected to move forward smoothly.

The project involves widening an 800-meter stretch of road between Bopodi Chowk and Kirloskar Company, which falls under the PMC’s jurisdiction. The remaining two-kilometer stretch from Kirloskar Company to Harris Bridge is under the Kirkee Cantonment Board (KCB).

The Jaihind cinema site, which was on a 99-year lease from the KCB, posed a hurdle for both the Metro and road widening projects. However, with the PMC stepping in and providing compensation to the theater owners through Maha Metro, the road widening project can now proceed without any further delays.

According to Aniruddha Pawaskar, the chief of PMC’s road department, the remaining road widening work will be completed within the next three months. Currently, there is only 25 meters of road for traffic, which will be increased by an additional 15 meters once the project is completed.

So, Khadki residents, get ready for smoother and wider roads in the near future thanks to the PMC’s efforts to push forward with this important infrastructure project!
