Hey Pune folks, have you heard the latest news from our city? Pune Police Crime Branch recently made a big arrest – a fake recovery agent pretending to be from ICICI Bank. This sneaky individual illegally took a bike from someone who hadn’t paid their loan instalments and demanded a whopping Rs 37,500 in extortion money. And guess what? Even after the money was paid, the bike wasn’t returned. What a scam!

The Anti-extortion Squad – 2 of the Pune Police Crime Branch swooped in and took action. A case was filed at Market Yard Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including punishment for wrongful restraint, extortion, robbery, and cheating by personation. The culprit, Vinod Chander Chavan, a 23-year-old resident of Bibwewadi, was arrested for his shady dealings.

It all started when Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade ordered his team to look into illegal property seizures by fake recovery agents. During their investigation, they uncovered this fraudulent scheme involving the fake ICICI Bank agent. The scammer tricked a citizen into handing over his Suzuki Burgman bike, claiming the loan hadn’t been paid. After demanding the extortion money, the bike still wasn’t returned, leading to the citizen reporting the incident to the police.

Thanks to the diligence of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amol Zende, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime 2) Satish Govekar, along with their dedicated team, justice was served. Police Inspector Pratap Mankar and his team of officers worked tirelessly to bring the culprit to justice.

So, Pune residents, if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, don’t hesitate to reach out to the police. Let’s keep our city safe from these con artists!
