Hey Pune peeps, heads up! The Khadakwasla Dam is ramping up its water discharge into the Mutha River basin starting from 6:00 AM today. The flow rate has been bumped up from 27,203 cusecs to 35,574 cusecs, so be prepared for some serious water action.

According to Shweta Kurhade, the Executive Engineer of the Khadakwasla Irrigation Department, these changes are not set in stone. Depending on how much rain we get, the discharge rate could go up or down to keep those water levels in check.

To keep everyone safe and dry, it’s best to steer clear of certain areas like Bhide Bridge, Garware College Khillare Vasti College Campus, Shitala Devi Temple Deccan, Sangam Bridge Settlement, Jayantrao Tilak Bridge, and Holkar Bridge.

Curious about the water levels in Pune’s dams? Here’s a snapshot as of 6 am on July 25th, 2024:
– Khadakwasala: 450 TMC total with 1.97% storage, and an inflow of +62 mtr
– Panshet: 1171 TMC total with 8.13% storage, and an inflow of +872 mtr
– Warasgaon: 1174 TMC total with 8.04% storage, and an inflow of +1198 mtr
– Temghar: 1914 TMC total with 2.12% storage, and an inflow of +321 mtr

Overall, the four dams are holding 20.27 TMC of water, which is 69.53% of their total capacity. Last year, they were at 17.84 TMC, so we’re definitely in a better spot this time around.

Stay safe, stay dry, and keep an eye on those dam updates, Pune!
