Hey there, folks in Pune! It’s been a rainy few days, hasn’t it? The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the area, and Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase is taking some serious precautions. Schools and colleges are closed for the next 48 hours, and offices are advised to give employees a day off for safety reasons.

Dr. Diwase mentioned that heavy rain has been pounding areas like Maval, Mulshi, Velha, Bhor, and Ambegaon (Ghat Mathas) since yesterday, with over 200 mm of rain falling in some places. The water release from Khadakwasla Dam has increased significantly, causing water stagnation in areas like Ekta Nagar, Bavdhan, and Yerawada.

Several bridges are submerged, and traffic restrictions are in place. The NDRF team, along with the PMC and PCMC fire brigade teams, are on standby for rescue operations. Tourist spots are closed for the next two days, and citizens are urged to stay away from vulnerable areas.

Unfortunately, there have been some casualties due to the heavy rain. One person died in a landslide in Tamhini Ghat’s Adharwadi area, and three people are trapped in a landslide in Lavasa city’s Dasve village. The NDRF team is working on rescue operations.

Dr. Diwase emphasized the importance of staying safe, avoiding unnecessary risks, and cooperating with the authorities. Let’s all take care of ourselves and each other during this rainy spell in Pune. Stay safe, everyone!
