The recent water release from the Khadakwasla Dam in Pune has caused chaos and distress for residents in various communities along the riverbanks. Areas such as Sinhagad Road, Pune Railway Station, Baner, Balewadi, and Yerawada have been heavily affected as water entered homes and caused significant damage.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stepped in to provide temporary accommodation for over 4,000 citizens in schools, temples, and marriage halls. The heavy rainfall in the catchment area of the Khadakwasla Dam led to the release of 35,000 cusecs of water into the Mutha River, exacerbating the situation for residents.

Societies and settlements like Ekta Nagari, Jalpujan Society, Dwarka Society, Sharada Sarovar Society, Shyam Sunder, Nimbaj Nagar, and Sarita Nagari have been hit hard on Sinhagad Road. Other areas affected include Swami Vivekananda Society, Wonder Futura Phase 1, Sadhguru Apartments, Indira Nagar, Bharat Nagar, Shanti Nagar, and Patil Estate.

In response to the crisis, the PMC has arranged for flood-affected citizens to be relocated to various schools, community temples, and Mangal offices. A total of 18 PMPML buses were used to transport citizens to these temporary shelters.

Several schools have been designated as temporary shelters, accommodating hundreds of people in each location. The PMC continues to work towards providing necessary support and assistance to those affected by the flooding.
