Heavy rains have been wreaking havoc in Pune and its surrounding areas, with tragic consequences. 26-year-old Akshay Salunkhe from Katraj was swept away in Ambil Odha during the downpour on the evening of 25th July. After an intense two-day search by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Fire Brigade, his lifeless body was discovered this morning.

Fire Brigade officials revealed that Akshay Salunkhe was carried away by the strong water flow of Ambil Odha. The search operation began promptly after receiving the distressing news, with a vehicle dispatched from Gangadham Fire Station. However, the rising water levels from the dam area made the task challenging, and Akshay remained unaccounted for on the first day.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, additional fire engines were sent from Gangadham and Katraj to Katraj, as well as from locations near Shankar Maharaj Math and the Swami Vivekananda statue. Today, a fire vehicle from Kasba Peth joined the search efforts near the PMC, utilizing ropes, hoses, life jackets, and tubes to scour the river. The efforts paid off when, at 10 AM, a body was discovered in the water under Dengle Bridge near the PMC building – tragically, it was identified as Akshay Salunkhe.
