The ‘Rickshaw Mitra’ pre-paid auto-rickshaw service was launched at Pune Railway Station today to make it easier for passengers to move around without any hassle. This service is especially helpful for passengers arriving or departing during odd hours and is also a step towards ensuring the safety of women travelers.

The initiative was officially launched by Chandrakant Patil, the Minister for Higher & Technical Education in Maharashtra, with support from Pune Police. Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil have been working on this project for some time, along with DCP (Traffic) Rohidas Pawar and his team who have been coordinating with the Rickshaw Union.

During the launch, Minister Chandrakant Patil encouraged rickshaw owners to provide quick and readily available services to passengers. He also announced incentives for rickshaw owners, such as monthly gas filling coupons worth ₹1000 and two sets of uniforms. Additionally, he assured that spare parts for rickshaws would be available at reasonable prices.

Manoj Patil, Addl CP of Pune Police, stressed the importance of prompt and efficient service for passengers to have a positive experience. The ‘Rickshaw Mitra’ service will be on a trial run for three months, with Dr Keshav Kshirsagar, the leader of the Rickshaw Union, overseeing the project operations in coordination with Pune Police.

Despite the presence of state ministers, top officials from Pune Police and RTO, it was noted that no senior railway official attended the event. Attendees expressed disappointment, feeling that Pune Railway officials may not be as concerned about customer support and satisfaction, possibly choosing to rest on the weekend instead.

MLA Sunil Kamble, RTO Pune Archana Gaikwad, and DCP Rohidas Pawar also showed their support for the initiative to improve public transportation in Pune.
