In a swift response to the recent natural disasters in Sangli (Maharashtra) and Wayanad (Kerala), the Indian Army’s Southern Command has mobilized troops for relief operations.

In Wayanad, Kerala, a significant landslide in the Meppadi Panchayath of Vyithiri Taluk left around 250 individuals stranded. The Kerala Government requested assistance from the Indian Army, which promptly deployed two rescue columns comprising approximately 200 soldiers from the Defence Security Corps (DSC) Centre in Kannur. A medical team from the Military Hospital in Kannur and troops from the Territorial Army in Kozhikode also joined the rescue efforts. Two helicopters from Air Force Station Sulur were dispatched to aid in the operation.

Meanwhile, in Sangli District, Maharashtra, relief operations are underway along a 20 km stretch of the Krishna River. The local Disaster Management Authority (DMA), Superintendent of Police, and Municipal Commissioner are working together, with the Indian Army establishing a medical camp to assist those evacuated by the district administration.

The efforts in both locations highlight the collaborative and efficient response of the Indian Army in times of crisis.
