Hey there, Pune peeps! Big news coming out of BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital. The dean, Dr. Eknath Pawar, has suspended a second junior resident doctor for their involvement in a shocking incident that took place on July 22.

In case you missed it, a handicapped patient with both legs amputated was forcibly discharged from the hospital in the wee hours of the morning and left under a tree in Yerawada. The first suspension happened on July 23 after an FIR was filed for endangering human life.

Dr. Pawar revealed that after an internal investigation, they identified another junior resident who was part of escorting the patient out of the hospital. This doctor has been suspended from academic activities and faces possible expulsion from the hostel and college for one academic term.

It’s important to note that no other staff members, including nurses, were involved in this incident. Dr. Pawar also mentioned that the head of the orthopedic department, Dr. Girish Bartakke, claimed he was unaware of what happened.

The two junior doctors caught on CCTV taking the patient outside were first-year master’s students in orthopedic surgery. The patient had requested discharge multiple times but couldn’t be released without following the proper procedure.

Dr. Pawar explained that when an unidentified patient arrives, the hospital’s social welfare team tries to locate a relative. If no relative is found, they work with an NGO for rehabilitation. Unfortunately, in this case, the patient was waiting for rehabilitation.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the investigation continues. Let’s hope justice is served for this vulnerable patient.
