Last week, residents in Ektanagar and Pulachi Wadi areas on Sinhagad Road in Pune found themselves submerged in water after a sudden discharge from the Khadakwasla dam. Accusations flew as people blamed the government for not giving adequate warning before releasing the water. The blame game didn’t stop there, as the river beautification project was also held accountable for the flooding.

The aftermath of the flood left many residents homeless and their belongings destroyed. In response, the Pune Municipal Corporation has set up a three-member committee to investigate the cause of the flood. The committee will consist of officials from the construction, drainage, and roads departments of the municipality, along with an irrigation department official as an invited member.

Additional Commissioner of PMC, Prithviraj B.P., has given the committee a deadline of seven days to submit their report. Meanwhile, efforts to clean up the debris and waste in Ektanagar and surrounding areas have begun to prevent future flooding risks.

Allegations have surfaced that private landowners between Rajaram Bridge and Shivane have been dumping waste in the Mutha river basin, potentially for commercial use. The PMC administration has been accused of turning a blind eye to this issue, prompting the formation of another three-member committee to investigate further.

“After the report is submitted within seven days, action will be taken against those responsible,” stated Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. Stay tuned for updates as the investigations unfold.
