Pune’s airport has taken a hit in its service rankings, dropping six spots to 76th place in the latest Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey for the second quarter of 2024. Despite an increase in passenger traffic, the overall satisfaction levels have seen a slight decrease, raising concerns among travelers.

The survey highlighted several key areas of concern at the airport. Cleanliness and hygiene, particularly in the restrooms, were noted as major issues. Passengers have expressed dissatisfaction with the airport’s cleanliness standards, which are crucial for a positive experience. Additionally, the quality of Wi-Fi and the availability of charging stations were flagged as needing improvement, as they are essential for a comfortable wait.

Staff behavior was also a point of concern, with reports of discourteous interactions and unhelpfulness affecting the overall passenger experience. Aviation expert Dhairyashil Vandekar emphasized the importance of basic factors like cleanliness and courteous service in shaping passengers’ opinions about an airport, alongside modern infrastructure.

The ASQ survey, conducted by the Airports Council International, covers 31 parameters and provides updates on airport service quality globally. The Airport Authority of India is aware of the issues raised and is working to enhance passenger services. The shift of flight operations to the new terminal building is expected to address many of the current concerns.

While recent ramp safety incidents were not included in the survey, efforts are ongoing to restore and improve the airport’s reputation. Stakeholders are encouraged to use the feedback from the survey to implement necessary improvements and ensure a better experience for passengers.
