Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Junnar today regarding the human-leopard conflicts that have been causing quite a stir in the area. The Pune forest department has taken a major step to address this issue by relocating 10 leopards to a sanctuary in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

The operation, which took place on Wednesday, involved the use of two large air-conditioned ambulances to transport these majestic cats to their new home. A team of 23 members from Gujarat, including a zoo manager and a veterinary officer, oversaw the transportation process to ensure the safety of the leopards.

This relocation plan was in the works since March and finally got the green light from the Central Zoo Authority in Delhi in June. The leopards, consisting of four females and six males, were captured from areas with high levels of human-leopard conflicts in Junnar taluka.

Deputy Conservator of Forests, Amol Satpute, shared that the leopards were taken from areas like Pimpri Pendhar, Kalwadi, and Pimpalwandi. The goal of this operation is to reduce conflicts in the Yedgaon dam backwaters, where incidents have been on the rise.

This proactive approach by the forest department shows their commitment to ensuring the safety and coexistence of both humans and wildlife in the region. Let’s hope this relocation proves to be a step in the right direction for peaceful cohabitation between humans and leopards in Junnar.
