The Zika virus continues to spread in Pune, with the number of patients now reaching 52. Sadly, four patients have lost their lives due to the virus. The Public Health Department has formed a committee to investigate these deaths and determine the exact causes.

The Erandwane Ward Office area has reported the highest number of Zika patients in Pune, with 11 cases. Following closely behind is the Dahanukar Colony Ward Office area with 10 cases. Other areas affected include Kharadi (6), Pashan (5), Mundhwa (4), Sukhsagar Nagar (4), Ambegaon Budruk (3), Ghole Road (3), Kalas (2), Dhankawadi (1), Lohgaon (1), Dhole-Patil Road (1), and Wanowrie (1). Just yesterday, three new patients were reported in different parts of the city.

Tragically, a 68-year-old patient from Gujarat Colony in Kothrud has passed away due to organ failure after testing positive for Zika. Another patient, a 78-year-old from Paranjape Athashri Society in Baner, also lost their life, with heart disease suspected as the cause. Additionally, a 76-year-old from Erandwane and a 72-year-old from Kharadi have also succumbed to the virus. All of these patients had underlying health conditions and were receiving treatment in private hospitals.

Dr. Suryakant Deokar, Assistant Health Officer of PMC, confirmed the deaths of these four Zika patients and mentioned that their medical reports will be sent to the Public Health Department for further investigation. The Health Department will conduct a thorough analysis to determine the exact cause of death for these individuals.
