Is Pune International Airport falling behind in providing quality service to air passengers? It seems so, as the airport’s rank on the Airport Service Quality Index (ASQI) has dropped. With the number of passengers increasing, the quality of service is reportedly decreasing, leaving many travellers inconvenienced.

A recent survey conducted by the Airports Council International (ACI) included 400 airports in 95 countries, with 14 airports from India among them. Pune Airport’s rank fell to 76th place in the first quarter of this year, scoring 4.81 out of 5 points. This decline in ranking indicates a decrease in the quality of facilities at the airport.

The ASQI takes into account 31 factors, including seating arrangements, wayfinding, communication, staff courtesy, Wi-Fi quality, charging stations, entertainment options, washrooms, hygiene, and cleanliness. Pune Airport saw a drop in 16 out of these 31 services, pointing to various areas where improvement is needed.

The reasons behind Pune Airport’s stagnant rank include issues with check-in area location, staff courtesy, security checks, airport shops, Customs staff courtesy, seating arrangements, Wi-Fi quality, charging stations, entertainment facilities, washroom availability and cleanliness, health safety, and air connectivity.

Experts in civil aviation are calling for the airport administration to focus on upgrading services and providing a pleasant experience for passengers. With the recent opening of a new terminal, there is hope that Pune Airport will be able to meet and exceed travellers’ expectations in the future.
