Attention all nature lovers and adventure seekers! If you were planning on exploring the beautiful trails of Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary in Pune, you might want to reconsider your plans. The sanctuary’s nature trails will be closed to tourists until September 30, as per an announcement by Vasant Chavan, the Forest Range Officer of Bhimashankar Sanctuary No. 1.

Bhimashankar, home to one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is a popular destination for devotees and tourists looking to experience the holy Shivling and the breathtaking views of the Sahyadri ranges and waterfalls during the monsoon season. However, the trails can be treacherous and difficult to navigate during this time of year.

Due to the increased risk of accidents, officials have decided to shut down all trails leading to the waterfalls in Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary 1 and 2. The unpredictable water flow and depth in the pools near the waterfalls pose significant hazards to visitors. This closure includes routes to the Kondhwal, Chondi, Nhanicha, and Subhedar waterfalls, as well as paths from Khandas to Bhimashankar.

The Deputy Conservator of Wildlife in Pune has urged tourists to adhere to the rules and cooperate with authorities during the monsoon season. This decision comes in the wake of recent incidents at Bhushi Dam and Tamhini Ghat, where several individuals were swept away by water.

So, if you were planning on embarking on a monsoon adventure in Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, it’s best to wait until the trails are deemed safe for exploration. Stay safe and enjoy the beauty of nature responsibly!
