Hey there, Pune folks! In recent news, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made a pit stop in our city to check out the flood situation. He took a tour of areas like Juni Sangvi, Patil Estate, and Ekta Nagri to see the damage firsthand. Shinde wasn’t too happy when he saw the state of Khadakwasla Dam, which had let out some water recently.
In a meeting at the Government Rest House, Shinde didn’t hold back his concerns about the flooding. He questioned why people’s homes were still underwater even after a significant amount of water had been released. Shinde didn’t mince words when he pointed out the authorities’ oversight of encroachments along the riverbeds that could have made things worse.
Shinde also dropped by Lavasa to get some answers about bungalows damaged by the heavy rainfall. However, officials gave him the runaround, promising more details later. Not one to take vague responses lightly, Shinde demanded a quick report on the situation.
The meeting was a star-studded affair with big names like Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Dr. Neelam Gorhe and Health Minister Dr. Tanaji Sawant in attendance. They, along with other officials, discussed ways to tackle the flooding issue and ensure citizens’ safety.
After the meeting, Shinde spoke to the press, assuring everyone that steps were being taken to help those affected by the floods. He mentioned plans to revamp construction rules for slum dwellers and crack down on encroachments along the riverbeds. Shinde made it clear that those breaking the rules would face the consequences.
On a different note, Shinde talked about political matters, mentioning the rejection of a petition against the Ladaki Bahin scheme. He also highlighted the government’s approval of over one crore five lakh applications from women in the state, showing their dedication to public welfare.
Well, that’s the scoop on Shinde’s visit to Pune. Stay safe and dry, folks!
