Hey Pune folks, it’s time to talk about the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hostel at Ghole Road. Unfortunately, this hostel has been in the news for all the wrong reasons recently. Two students living in the hostel have tragically lost their lives due to jaundice and dengue infections. It’s a heartbreaking situation that has sparked a lot of criticism towards the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

The hostel, which falls under the jurisdiction of the PMC, is in a dire state. The building is old and rundown, and to make matters worse, it’s located right next to a Municipal Waste Transfer Centre. This has led to a breeding ground for filth, unclean water, and mosquitoes.

Students living in the hostel have been vocal about the lack of cleanliness and maintenance. Prashant Kanojia from the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena has raised concerns about the situation and demanded financial assistance for the families of the deceased students and free treatment for sick students.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also joined the protest, blaming the hostel administration and the PMC for the deaths of the students. They called for compensation for the families affected by this tragedy.

In response to the outrage, the Municipal Commissioner visited the hostel and spoke with the students to understand their grievances. He has instructed officials to improve cleanliness, hire a private organization for cleaning, and address the students’ complaints promptly.

It’s a tragic situation that has shed light on the negligence and mismanagement at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hostel. Let’s hope that swift action is taken to prevent such tragedies in the future. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
