India is making big waves in the field of quantum technology with the announcement of its first call for proposals to support startups in this cutting-edge industry. The I-Hub Quantum Technology Foundation (QTF) at IISER Pune is taking the lead in managing the programme, which aligns with the government’s National Quantum Mission (NQM) guidelines.
The government’s vision is clear – to position India as a global leader in quantum technology. Professor Ajay K. Sood, the Principal Scientific Adviser, stressed the importance of the deep-tech startup policy in achieving this goal. With support from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), young and mid-level startups are expected to benefit greatly from this initiative.
The guidelines for the call cover various aspects such as eligibility, evaluation processes, funding mechanisms, and progress monitoring. The aim is to provide targeted support to startups in order to create a thriving ecosystem that will lead to job creation and economic growth.
The Ministry of Science and Technology highlighted the need for robust support to bridge the gap between research and commercialization in the quantum technology sector. Industry leader Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman of the Mission Governing Board, expressed confidence in the potential for significant progress and transformation in the industry with the implementation of these new guidelines.
