The recent heavy rains in Pune have caused widespread flooding, prompting the Republican Party of India – Athawale (RPI) to take action. Led by Pune City President Sanjay Sonawane, the RPI organized a protest march demanding relief for the affected families. The march started at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar statue at Pune Railway Station and made its way to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Building. Protesters voiced their frustrations with the Maharashtra State Government and local administration for their lack of response to the flooding.

During the protest, key figures such as RPI Regional Secretary Balasaheb Janrao, former Deputy Mayor Dr. Siddharth Dhende, Sunita Wadekar, and Regional Organizer Parashuram Wadekar participated in the march. Sonawane addressed the crowd, stating that nearly ten thousand families in Pune have been impacted by the floods due to poor coordination among various government agencies. He called for immediate financial aid of Rs. 25,000 per affected family and demanded the removal of officials responsible for mishandling the flood response.

Sonawane also emphasized the importance of redrawing the flood line and investigating any fraudulent activities related to flood relief efforts. He warned that without proper preventive measures, the risk of future floods remains high, especially for settlements along the river. The RPI is urging swift action to prevent similar disasters from occurring in the future.
