Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Pune and Sangli today regarding the introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on foodgrains. The president of the Sangli Chamber of Commerce, Amarsingh Desai, has called for the abolition of the regulation cess levied by the Agricultural Produce Market Committee.

Desai recently announced that markets all across Maharashtra State will be shut down on August 27 as traders demand various changes, including the relaxation of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act of 2017. A recent meeting organized by the Maharashtra State Traders Action Committee saw representatives from multiple organizations, including the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture, and the Federation of Associations of Maharashtra, coming together to discuss these issues.

During the meeting, resolutions were passed addressing demands such as the relaxation of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act of 2017 and the retention of the Legal Metrology Act of 2009 Rule 3. Traders have long been pushing for the abolition of the market premises tax, but so far, the government has not taken action on these concerns. To bring attention to their issues, traders will be observing a symbolic one-day shutdown on August 27, with wholesale and retail markets across Maharashtra closing for the day.

In addition, traders in Mumbai are planning an agitation to further highlight their demands. A divisional conference for the districts of Satara, Sangli, Pune, Kolhapur, and Solapur is scheduled for August 16 at the Market Yard in Sangli. Amarsingh Desai mentioned that the direction of the movement will be decided at this upcoming conference.
