The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) is making moves to extend the Metro line from Pimpri to Nigdi, and they’re seeking additional land parcels from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to make it happen. This request for 15 land parcels comes after the Corporation agreed to lease ten key locations to the Pune Metro.

MahaMetro is looking to secure a total of 4,884 square meters of land for permanent ownership, with a focus on six plots at the Nigdi Bus Terminal. This land will not only support the construction of four new Metro stations along the Pimpri-Nigdi route but also boost non-fare revenue through commercial activities.

The planned stations include Chinchwad, Khandoba Mal Chowk in Akurdi, Tilak Chowk in Nigdi, and Lokshahir Anna Bhau Sathe PMPML Depot at Bhakti-Shakti Sangam Shilp Chowk. These stations will offer various facilities such as entryways, staircases, elevators, and parking areas, all of which require the additional land.

The state government has directed the PCMC Commissioner to facilitate the transfer of the lands to MahaMetro, but a final decision is still pending. MahaMetro has stated that while the land will be leased, the rates for these leases will be determined by evaluations from the Urban Planning Department. Further progress on this project will depend on the PCMC’s response, according to Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate.
