Hey there, folks! Here’s a little snippet of what’s been happening in Yerawada recently. Pune Police have cracked down on a gang of five individuals who were involved in stealing a whopping Rs 2 lakh from the donation box at Shree Tarkeshwar Temple. The theft had caused quite a stir during the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly’s Monsoon Session, putting pressure on the police to solve the case.

The suspects, hailing from Nagpur, broke into the temple and made off with cash donated by anonymous contributors. Thanks to the quick action of Yerawada resident Sudhir Vasantrao Wambure, who lodged a complaint with the police, the culprits were brought to justice. The arrested individuals, Swarup Rajesh Chopade, Rajan Patel, Akshay Sahu, Atharva Vatkar, and Amit Sheriya, now face charges under IPC Sections 457 and 380.

Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke shed some light on the security measures at Shree Tarkeshwar Temple, explaining that the temple has donation boxes for both regular and anonymous contributors, along with security guards for oversight. The thieves managed to break in on 4th June, vandalizing six donation boxes and stealing Rs 2 lakh in the process.

The Yerawada Police faced intense scrutiny during the Assembly session, but they rose to the occasion. The Detection Branch reviewed over 200 CCTV footages from Pune to Ahmednagar, leading to the identification and arrest of Chopade near Pune Railway Station. His interrogation led to the resolution of the case, with Vatkar also being apprehended in Nagpur. The police managed to recover Rs 1,05,000 of the stolen amount and seized the Jupiter Scooter used in the theft.

This successful operation wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Vijay Kumar Magar, and the entire team at Yerawada Police Station. Kudos to all those involved in bringing these thieves to justice and resolving multiple theft cases in the process!
