Hey there, folks! If you’re a frequent traveler between Mumbai and Pune, you’re in for some exciting news. Central Railway (CR) is shaking things up with some unconventional measures to make your journey smoother and faster.

So, what’s the plan? CR is looking to construct two new routes – a 72-km stretch from Karjat to Talegaon and a 62-km stretch from Karjat to Kamshet. This means saying goodbye to the old Lonavala route and doubling the speed of express trains. That’s right, express trains will now be able to zip along at 110 kmph instead of the previous 60 kmph limit in the Ghat section.

But wait, there’s more! With these new routes, CR is considering introducing 10 new trains to cater to the increasing number of passengers traveling between Mumbai and Pune. The existing routes are already bustling with 44 trains shuttling back and forth daily, and the demand is only going up.

The new routes will also mean no more waiting for that extra engine (banker) before and after climbing the Ghat section. This will save passengers precious time, as the whole process usually takes around 15-20 minutes.

Of course, all these changes come at a cost. The Karjat to Talegaon stretch is estimated to cost Rs 16,000 crore, while the Karjat to Kamshet route is expected to ring in at Rs 10,200 crore. But hey, if it means a faster and more convenient journey between Mumbai and Pune, it might just be worth it.

So, get ready for some major upgrades in the next four years as CR gets to work on these new routes. With a mega terminus in the works in the Panvel area and new platforms coming up at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, traveling between Mumbai and Pune is about to get a whole lot easier. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development!
