Hey Punekars, exciting news coming your way! Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar has spoken up about the upcoming Ganesh Festival celebrations in Pune. He mentioned that there have been talks about the loud music and DJ bands playing during the festival, and the police will be meeting with each mandal to discuss this issue.

One of the hot topics of discussion is how many Dhol-Tasha pathaks should be allowed to be part of a mandal’s immersion procession. This decision will be made in the next meeting, so stay tuned for updates on that!

Some mandals have also called for a ban on alcohol sales during the festival. CP Kumar assured that a decision will be made based on public opinion. A recent meeting of Ganesh mandals was held at the Police Headquarters in Shivajinagar, where CP Kumar addressed around 600 representatives from 300 mandals.

In 2022, CM Eknath Shinde announced that mandals who had permission last year would not need to renew it for five years. A one-window scheme has also been implemented for new mandals. However, CP Kumar emphasized the importance of following rules to prevent traffic jams and other issues during the festival.

The police will be conducting zone-wise meetings for the immersion procession to ensure everything runs smoothly and on time. CP Kumar mentioned the reemergence of potholes in the city and assured that both the civic body and police will work together to fill them up.

On top of that, the Pune Police have launched a drive against drugs, and CP Kumar urged Ganesh mandals to support this effort. If any illegal activity is reported, the police will take necessary action. CP Kumar also plans to visit mandals soon to inspect preparations and the immersion procession route.

So Punekars, get ready for a fun and safe Ganesh Festival celebration this year, and let’s all work together to make it a memorable one!
