The discovery of approximately 750 grams of marijuana in Hostel No. 8 at Savitribai Phule Pune University has sparked controversy and calls for action from student organizations. The university administration has promised to launch an inquiry committee to investigate the incident, but student groups are accusing them of trying to sweep the matter under the rug.

The Yuva Sena has issued a warning that they will protest in their distinctive “Shiv Sena” style if no action is taken within two days. The Indian Youth Congress is also planning to meet with the Vice-Chancellor to push for accountability.

Ram Tharkude, the city chief of Yuva Sena, expressed concern over the administration’s handling of the situation, emphasizing the need for vigilance to prevent drugs from entering the university. Akshay Jain, the state president of the Indian Youth Congress Media Cell, highlighted the alarming presence of drugs in a prestigious educational institution like Pune University.

The University Students Struggle Committee is also calling for decisive action against those responsible. An anonymous official revealed that the marijuana was discovered on May 14 but no action has been taken for the past ten days to protect the university’s reputation.

The registrar confirmed the formation of an inquiry committee and pledged to file a police complaint once the facts are established. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
