The Pune excise department has taken strict action against more than 100 pubs and bars in the city, with licenses being suspended and sealed. The crackdown also targeted rooftop bars, with six in Viman Nagar having their licenses permanently cancelled. District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase issued a directive leading to this action.
Establishments like The Tipsy Horse, The Mafia Sky Lounge, Rude Lounge, and Escada All Day Kitchen & Bar were among those affected. The decision to cancel the licenses of the six rooftop bars followed two hearings conducted by the district collector.
This move comes in the wake of a tragic Porsche car accident in Kalyani Nagar, which claimed the lives of two IT professionals. Investigations revealed that the underage driver involved had been served alcohol at Cosie and Blak Club before the accident occurred. The driver was found to be driving at speeds over 160 km per hour.
