In a remarkable feat of medical expertise and coordination, doctors in Pune have performed a life-saving lung transplant, covering over 1,000 kilometers in just three hours. This incredible accomplishment has given a critically ill patient a new lease on life.

The recipient was facing severe respiratory issues worsened by a swine flu infection, with his lungs on the verge of failure. An urgent lung transplant was the only hope for his survival.

The donor, declared brain-dead in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, became the source of the vital organ. The lung was swiftly transported to DPU Super Specialty Hospital in Pune through a green corridor, ensuring its timely arrival.

Upon reaching the hospital, the transplant surgery was immediately carried out. The patient, who had been on ECMO due to his critical condition, responded well to the transplant and is expected to fully recover. This successful procedure marks the second lung transplant at the hospital in just a fortnight.

Dr. Sandeep Attawar, of DPU Super Specialty Hospital, praised the collaborative efforts and technology that made the rapid transport and successful operation possible. “Organ donation is a noble act, and thanks to this invaluable gift, we were able to save a precious life,” Dr. Attawar stated. “Our quick response, along with advanced technology and the dedication of our medical team, ensured the organ’s safe delivery and a successful transplant.”
