Pune’s very own Diana Pundole has made history by becoming the first Indian woman to clinch a championship title in the MRF Saloons category at the Indian National Car Racing Championship 2024. The 28-year-old racer, who is also a mother of two, expressed her joy and sense of achievement after her groundbreaking win, stating, “I was completely focused on the races this weekend and didn’t even touch my phone. I can’t put into words how happy I am right now.”

The championship, which concluded at the Madras International Circuit, saw several standout performances and key achievements. Notable moments included Jaden Rahman Pariat, a 17-year-old from Shillong, who claimed the championship in the premier MRF single-seater categories. Despite finishing second in the final races, Jaden’s previous wins secured his title, showcasing his talent and determination.

Another rising star, 16-year-old Abhay Mohan, celebrated his first championship win in the MRF Formula 1600 category with an impressive record of 11 wins out of 12 races. Abhay expressed his gratitude for the support he received from his team and loved ones, stating, “Winning a championship in my debut season is a dream come true.”

Biren Pithawalla from Mumbai emerged victorious in the Indian Touring Cars category, while Srinivas Teja from Chennai showcased his skills by winning the Indian Junior Touring Cars title. Viswas Vijayaraj from Nellore claimed the Formula LGB 1300 title, with Mira Erda making history as the first female driver to secure a single-seater race win since 2014 in the FLGB 1300 category.

Despite some delays due to crashes and spins in the post-lunch session, the day was filled with competitive spirit and thrilling moments, making it a memorable conclusion to the championship season. The event highlighted the talent and dedication of India’s racing community, setting the stage for future success in the world of motorsport.
