Hey there, folks! Exciting news coming in from the historical world – it turns out that Mirgad in Pen Taluka of Raigad District is NOT the same as Songiri after all! Can you believe it?

Thanks to some thorough research by history researcher Raj Memane, it has been discovered that Mirgad, also known as Mruggad, was previously known as Sarasgad and is now located in Pali Taluka of Raigad District. On the other hand, Songiri, formerly known as Avachitgad, is a completely different fort altogether.

Documents in Modi script found in the Peshwa Office archives in Pune have confirmed this revelation. Memane recently presented his research at a Research Essay Meeting at Bharatiya Vichar Sadhana Hall, where he shared various documents and photographs of the forts.

According to Memane, the forts started collapsing between 1739 and 1792, and the Siddhi people from the Janjira Sea Fort taluka began causing trouble. Sardar Baburao Pasalkar even informed the Peshwas that the forts needed to be rebuilt, and they were indeed rebuilt in 1793 AD.

In conclusion, it’s now clear that Mirgad and Songiri are two distinct forts, as proven by historical documents. So, let’s update our history books, shall we? Stay tuned for more fascinating historical discoveries!
