Puneites in the city were left shocked and outraged on Tuesday as news of the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue at Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg spread like wildfire. The NCP (SP) took a bold stance against the government’s negligence, with City Unit President Prashant Jagtap leading a unique protest outside the Rashtravadi Congress Bhavan in Shivajinagar.

In a symbolic act of protest, party workers poured milk over a bust of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and offered their apologies to the revered king. A Dahi-Handi, representing corruption, despotism, suppression, and hatred, was also broken to highlight the government’s failures.

Prashant Jagtap did not mince words, stating, “The hasty installation of the statue at Rajkot Fort was clearly a political move ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The collapse of the statue not only revealed shoddy workmanship but also amounted to a disrespectful insult to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The government must be held accountable for this shameful incident.”

The presence of party workers like Kishor Kamble, Swati Pokale, Kaka Chavan, and others underscored the seriousness of the protest. The NCP (SP) made their message loud and clear: Puneites will not stand idly by while the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is disrespected.
