Frustration is mounting among residents of Wakad as complaints regarding potholes, overflowing drains, garbage accumulation, and contaminated water are being overlooked by the municipal corporation. Despite the introduction of the Sarathi helpline, which was initially successful in addressing citizen’s concerns, the system is now perceived as ineffective.

The lack of follow-up on complaints has led to skepticism about the administration’s commitment to resolving issues promptly. The end of the Democracy Day initiative, where citizens could directly voice their complaints to officials, has left both authorities and residents feeling powerless.

Residents like Roopa Sharma are calling for an inquiry into the Sarathi helpline and for strict actions to be taken against those responsible for closing complaints without resolution. In response, a senior official of the PCMC assured that complaints will be fully resolved before being closed and that any closed complaints without resolution will be investigated.

It seems that despite the promises of a citizen-focused administration, the municipal corporation is failing to live up to expectations. The need for a more responsive and accountable system for addressing citizen’s concerns is becoming increasingly urgent in Wakad.
