Market Yard in Pune is facing a shortage of leafy vegetables due to the continuous rains in the region. This has caused a decrease in cultivation and has led to a reduced supply of popular vegetables like coriander, fenugreek, and spinach. As a result, the prices of these vegetables have significantly increased in the retail market.

A bunch of coriander is now selling for anywhere between Rs 60 to Rs 80, depending on the quality. Fenugreek bouquets are priced at Rs 50, and spinach prices are also on the rise. The inflow of leafy vegetables from the Pune division is low compared to the demand, resulting in a scarcity of these essential greens.

Rajendra Suryawanshi, a trader at Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard, noted that the grading of leafy vegetables has been affected by the heavy rainfall. The damage caused by the rain has led to stained vegetables, with only high-quality produce fetching good prices in the market. Prices of fenugreek, coriander, and spinach have all increased in the wholesale market, and it is expected to take at least a month for new planting to make up for the shortage.

Suryawanshi predicts that the prices of leafy vegetables will continue to rise until Ganesh Utsav, as the supply is not expected to improve anytime soon. Consumers may have to pay more for their favorite greens until the situation stabilizes in the market.
