Hey there, Pune folks! It’s time to talk about some city news that has got everyone talking. The Maharashtra Government recently approved a whopping ₹200 crores for the boundary walls of major drainage systems in Pune City. Sounds like a good move, right? Well, hold on to your hats because there’s a catch.

It has been revealed that this massive amount of money was allocated only to constituencies in Pune where BJP MLAs are in power. Yep, you heard that right. The remaining three constituencies, where non-BJP MLAs hold the reins, were left high and dry with no funds allocated to them at all.

Five years ago, heavy rains wreaked havoc in Ambil Odha, a major natural drainage system in Pune. Floodwater made its way into many housing societies, causing damage to the boundary walls. The PMC tried to do some damage control by constructing walls and bridges in certain areas. However, due to technical reasons, the necessary work of building boundary walls to prevent future flooding has been left incomplete.

To tackle this issue, the Maharashtra Government stepped in and allocated a special fund of ₹200 crores to the PMC. But here’s where things get a bit shady. The PMC decided to allocate this fund exclusively to the five constituencies where BJP MLAs are in power. Tenders were issued for the construction of boundary walls, but the rules were not followed, leading to objections from the Pune District Collector’s office.

After some back and forth, the PMC submitted a revised proposal for approval, making necessary amendments. The allocated funds were distributed as follows: ₹41.23 crores for Khadakwasla Constituency, ₹41.15 crores for Parbati, ₹19.90 crores for Kothrud, ₹24.80 crores for Shivajinagar, and ₹39.04 crores for Cantonment Constituency. Unfortunately, Wadgaon Sheri, Hadapsar, and Kasba Peth Constituencies were left out of the funding loop.

Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, Commissioner of PMC, assured that the projects will be carried out according to the list provided by the Maharashtra Government. With all this drama unfolding, it’s clear that the city’s drainage system is in need of some serious attention. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
