Former MLA and Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Vice President Mohan Joshi took a stand against the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) yesterday in Pune. The issue at hand was the allocation of land in Mangalwar Peth, originally designated for a cancer hospital, to a private builder. Joshi labeled this decision as a “multi-crore corruption scandal” orchestrated by the ruling alliance.

In a bold move during the protest at the MSRDC office, Joshi and other Congress leaders presented a garland made of currency notes to officials, symbolizing the alleged corruption involved in the land allocation. The plot, situated across from Sassoon Hospital, was initially earmarked for a cancer hospital project under the Department of Medical Education, spearheaded by Ajit Pawar. Despite initial agreements made in 2013, the project hit a roadblock, leading to the leasing of the land to a private builder for a hefty sum of ₹70-80 crores for a period of 90 years.

Joshi issued a stern warning that the Congress party would launch a robust agitation to ensure the realization of Pune’s cancer hospital project, accusing the government of putting private interests ahead of public health. A number of Congress leaders, including Chandrashekhar Kapote, Rohan Survase Patil, Prashant Surse, and many others, stood in solidarity with Joshi during the protest. They are determined to hold the authorities accountable and fight for the public’s rights.
