It seems like PMPML bus drivers in Pune are really racking up those traffic fines! According to recent data, the number of fines issued to these drivers has gone up by almost 39% in the last financial year. That’s a pretty significant increase, considering the consequences of reckless driving on the road.

In the previous financial year, 723 drivers were slapped with e-challans for various violations. Fast forward to 2023-24, and that number has jumped to 1,002. Yikes! It seems like running red lights, using mobile phones while driving, and lane violations are becoming all too common among PMPML bus drivers.

PMPML officials are claiming that they are working with the Pune traffic police to address these violations, but passengers aren’t convinced. Out of the 1,725 e-challans issued from 2022 to March 2024, only 985 fines have been settled. That leaves a whopping 740 fines unpaid. Not a great track record, PMPML!

According to Satish Gate, PMPML’s public relations officer, they are trying to hold drivers accountable by serving them with show-cause notices and reminding them to clear any pending fines. But passengers are demanding more action to be taken to prevent reckless driving on the roads.

It’s clear that something needs to change to ensure the safety of all road users in Pune. Let’s hope that PMPML steps up their game and takes more decisive action to address these concerning trends.
