Hey folks, did you hear about the First National Annual Research Seminar on Jain Art, Architecture and Archaeology that took place in Pune recently? Well, let me give you the lowdown on what went down at this exciting event!

So, the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology at Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute organized this seminar under the Bhagwan Shitalnath Chair for Jain Archaeology. Scholars from all over the country presented 17 research papers on various aspects of Jainism, including Art, Architecture, Iconography, Narratives, Recent Explorations, and Textual Traditions.

The seminar was a hit, with around 150 participants from Pune and other cities attending. The Vice-Chancellor of Deccan College, Prof. Pramod Pandey, chaired the inaugural function and highlighted the activities of the Chair for Jain Archaeology. Eminent art-historian Prof. Kumud Kanitkar talked about Jain Architectural and Sculptural Remains in Maharashtra and stressed the importance of studying Jain Art, Architecture, and Archaeology in depth.

Guest of Honour, Dr. Shrinetra Pandey, Director of International School for Jain Studies, emphasized the significance of academic activities like this seminar. The technical sessions were chaired by experts in the field, and the audience got a chance to interact with the scholars during the Q&A sessions.

The valedictory function was a grand affair, with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prasad Joshi and Former Professor Ashok Kumar Singh praising the presenters for their original research. Prof. Shahida Ansari, Head of the Department of AIHC and Archaeology, commended the new generation’s interest in exploring the past.

Overall, the seminar was a huge success in spreading knowledge about Jain Studies to both academics and the general public. Participants even received a momento with an inscription from Pale Jain Cave as a souvenir. Kudos to the organizing committee for pulling off such a fantastic event!
