Hey Pune folks, listen up! As we gear up for the Ganeshotsav celebrations, it’s important for Ganesh mandals to pay heed to the rules of cleanliness when it comes to preparing and distributing Prasad. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued strict instructions for mandals to register with their office if they’re involved in cooking and distributing Prasad to devotees.

Under the Food Safety & Standards Act 2006 Rules and Regulations 2011, mandals must ensure that the Prasad is covered with a glass lid or transparent plastic cover to keep it safe from dust, soil, and insects. And let’s not forget, stale food should never make its way to the devotees!

Personal hygiene is also key here – anyone handling Prasad must follow strict hygiene practices. No one with an infectious disease should be anywhere near the Prasad preparation process. Trimmed fingernails, gloves, apron, hair covering, and a mask over the mouth are all essential.

For those mandals who are DIY-ing the Prasad preparation, make sure to register on the FDA website and pay a nominal fee of Rs 100 to get your registration certificate. And don’t forget to keep those purchase bills handy – raw food should only be sourced from licensed shops.

Let’s make sure our Ganeshotsav celebrations are not just joyous but also safe and hygienic for everyone involved. Happy preparations, Pune!
